Mapping of Areas Vulnerable to Flash Floods by Means of Morphometric Analysis with Weighting Criteria Applied

Flash floods, produced by heavy seasonal rainfall and characterized high speeds destructive power, are among the most devastating natural phenomena capable of causing great destruction in very little time. In absence hydrological data, morphometric characterization can provide important information on preventive measures against flash floods. A priority categorization hydrographic units Cañete River basin was carried out using analysis together with a weighted sum (WSA) based statistical correlation matrix. The delineation drainage network performed Digital Elevation Model (DEM) data from Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM). subdivided into 11 sub-basins, 15 parameters were selected. category (very high, moderate) each sub-basin assigned according to value composite factor obtained through WSA. results this showed that 26.08% total area is under flood risk (sub-basins 3, 9, 11), 38.46% 5, 7, 8, 10), 35.45% moderate risk. This study concludes floods predominate 3 downstream areas present characteristics river flooding 9 11).
